Welcome to our website for St. John the Baptist Catholic Primary School. Thank you for wanting to find out more about us.

St. John's is a small, friendly Catholic school of around 80 children. We are proud to be a small school and we are fully committed in providing our children with many learning opportunities. Our school community is a happy family whose members care for and value each other. We believe this provides the ideal environment for children to learn and grow.

We take both Catholic and non-Catholic children whose parents are sympathetic to our Catholic ethos. Click here for more details on our admissions procedure.

At St. John’s, we:

  • have small class sizes
  • maintain high standards of behaviour
  • welcome both Catholic/non-Catholic families
  • have places available throughout the school
  • enjoy very high levels of adult support. We have a general teaching assistant in every classroom not attached to specific children
  • believe the number of adults is our greatest resource and our children benefit from the small groups that they are taught in
  • have achieved Activemark award for our very good Physical Education provision
  • and Artsmark Gold– awarded for our excellent ‘arts’ provision.
  • attained a 100% pass rate to Churston Grammar (2008)

Visitors to the school often comment on the lovely atmosphere within the school and on how welcome the children make them feel.

Past inspections have highlighted how committed we are to the education and general welfare of our children. The children are always central to all our decision making. We believe that they thrive in a secure, warm environment that understands and provides for their individual needs.

" Pupils receive a good education and achieve well. The school's work is underpinned by its strong Catholic ethos which is led by the headteacher and espoused by all the staff. The care of each child is of paramount importance and consequently the provision for pupils' care, guidance and support is outstanding."

"The school provides an exciting and interesting education for its pupils. They talked with enthusiasm about their fun activities and about the teachers who are always quick to help them understand when they are stuck. Each child has its own important place in the school and staff are effective in recognising not only what will support pupils' learning but also what will help their personal and social development."
